CONFESS :
A while ago a sudden spur of confession ripped through the Christian Church an left it bleeding. Marriages were wrecked and friendships damaged beyond repair. The spur was called CONFESSION.
What people understood from it was that they should come forward with all the baggage whether already forgiven by God (or not in your mind); and lay it all at each other’s feet. The result was devastating.
I believe a secret between you and God stays that way. So what does James 5:16 say and to whom?
Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. (Jas 5:16) Amp.
Let’s allow the dictionary to have a word.
Confess G3670 homologeo:
1) to say the same thing as another, i.e. to agree with, assent
2) to concede
3) to profess
Now two words stand out here in the original word. The one word is HOMO indicating “likeness” or “the same as”.
The other word is LOGEO” which comes fro the word Logos, which we all know is Jesus (John 1:1 to 14)
So the word implies to say the same thing as Jesus. What does he say about your shortcomings? What does he say about your sins? Nailed to the cross, As far as East is from West, cleansed by Him.
Now if we read James again it we see that he admonishes us to speak concerning our sins the way Jesus does, then pray for one another; then understand that there is great power in our righteous prayer.
Go read Rom 10:9-10 with this understanding as well as Rom 14:11.
Yes there will come a day when all will speak the same as Jesus. Because we will all have his mind in full function. Remember Paul said “But you have the mind of Christ’ 1 Cor. 2:16
And every tongue [frankly and openly] confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Php 2:11)
If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins (Speak about it like Jesus would), He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].
(1Jn 1:9)
Anyone who confesses (acknowledges, owns) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides (lives, makes His home) in him and he [abides, lives, makes his home] in God.
(1Jn 4:15)
Say it! Say the truth. Say it like Jesus would.
“My sins are forgiven, I am a new creation, I am the salt of the earth, I am a light in this dark world, I have the mind of Christ, death has nothing on me, I am a blood bought, Spirit filled son of God Almighty!”
Stay Blessed,
